Our Y Stories

For more than 16 decades, the people of Greater Cleveland have invested in and benefitted from the YMCA, world’s largest charity dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Without you, there would not be a YMCA of Greater Cleveland. 

Those who come to Y-Haven experiencing homelessness and addiction have many needs, mental and physical. You can help them right now: Just log on to Amazon.com and access the Y-Haven Wish List here.

For November, people may join the Y and pay no join fee if they donate hygiene products which we will give to area shelters as well as our Y-Haven facility, which helps those experiencing addiction and homelessness. If you know someone considering joining the Y, now would be an ideal time! 

More children are getting their education at home than ever. According to the National Home Education Research, there are now nearly five million homeschooled students in the U.S., including children ages 5 to 17 with a grade equivalent of kindergarten through grade 12. In 2019, that number was 2.5 million.

The Lakewood Family YMCA is now an even more beautiful location. On September 18, 2022, a group of over 50 family and friends dedicated Susan’s Garden at the branch. The garden was created to honor the memory of Susan Conway Grimberg and her husband, Bill.

Please spread the word! The Y has excellent part-time, flexible positions in our School Age Child Care, Lifeguard and Swim Instructor programs available right now. (Training is available for those interested in becoming a lifeguard or swimming instructor.) Y employees receive a complimentary membership, discounts on Y classes and programs, and child care.
